Abstract
OBJECTIVE
to develop an instrument to assess nurses' knowledge about the care of intestinal elimination ostomies in Primary Health Care and to gather evidence of content and construct validity.
METHOD
a psychometric study conducted in three stages: theoretical development, evaluation of content validity evidence by experts, and analysis of construct validity and reliability, according to international guidelines for the development of assessment instruments. Eleven expert judges and 190 nurses from Primary Health Care in the capital of Piauí, Brazil, participated. The Content Validity Ratio, exploration factor analysis, and reliability estimates were assessed using Cronbach's Alpha and McDonald's omega.
RESULTS
all items showed content validity above the recommended cutoff point (≥0.59). Exploratory factor analysis demonstrated adequacy and structural stability. Reliability estimates were satisfactory (α=0.88; ω=0.87; ORION between 0.72 and 0.90). The final version of the instrument consisted of 33 items distributed across four dimensions, with true or false responses.
CONCLUSION
the results showed satisfactory psychometric properties. The instrument, composed of 33 items distributed across four dimensions, proved to be valid and reliable. It was considered suitable for assessing nurses' knowledge about intestinal stoma care in Primary Health Care.
